A spin around the internet

Periodically (when I remember it exists), I take a spin around the Hype Machine to see what strikes my fancy. Here’s the stuff I sampled today:

MGMT - Kids [Afterschool Dance Megamix]: I guess the MFM blog is trying to tell me that this is, in fact, the original version of the song, from 2005. It does not hold up. It sounds the same, only the band is very far away. And then there’s a random carnival interlude.

Santogold and Diplo - Guns of Brooklyn: Man, I guess sounding like you’re really far away is the new hip thing. It’s like a reggae version of “Guns of Brixton”, with one word changed, recorded in the bottom of a well.

Takka Takka - Silence: I adore Takka Takka, and the new stuff is no different. It’s a little more ethereal, kind of Home Movies-ish. This sounds more like walking through snow as opposed to running through a train station. And the drums are intense.

Pause so I can re-download “Kiss Them for Me” by Siouxsie and the Banshees. This is on every computer and iPod I’ve ever owned, and on several high school mixtapes. I don’t know what makes me adore this song, but its probably a combination of the skittish, crazy beat and Siouxsie Sioux’s lethargic vocals.
